Course Description
Workplace violence spans all settings, not just healthcare. However, according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, or BLS, hospitals are one of the most hazardous places to work; and one factor is workplace violence.
Violence against healthcare workers is at epidemic proportions. Workplace violence is a growing and serious problem in healthcare. Research of this problem continues to increase due to the immediate and long-term effects on worker health. Employers and nurses have an obligation and responsibility to help create a safe and healthy work environment for everyone.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Define workplace violence (WPV) and its background
- Examine the types of WPV including bullying and incivility
- Discuss the consequences of WPV for the individual and nursing profession
- Explain the importance of WPV prevention programs
