A priority in health care facilities is the abundance of back injuries among nursing staff due to manual patient handling practices. Injured nurses are increasing worker’s compensation costs and causing high levels of staff turnover. This Safe Patient Handling Champion course teaches clinical leadership the importance of utilizing safe patient handling practices for preventing injury and provides a guideline for how to create a Safe Patient Handling program that works for every environment. It instructs on the history of the problem, reviews safe lifting equipment and best practices for performing lifting safely, and instructs on methods of developing a program for Safe Patient Handling through pre-assessment, implementation, and evaluation
Nearly 12% of nurses in hospitals report work-related musculoskeletal injuries, and over 1/3 of back injuries are due to the handling and manual lifting of patients. Safe mobility requires a comprehensive, multifaceted approach that supports caregivers so they can protect their patients and themselves. MEDLINE'S safe mobility pROGRAM This is breakthrough program designed to protect patients and clinicians. It mirrors the American Nurses Association (ANA) safe patient handling and mobility (SPHM) guidelines to integrate safe patient handling, falls management and early mobility into one united initiative.1 THE BENEFIT of safe mobility Enabling your team with the right education and tools, this program will help you put the upcoming ANA best practices into action to eliminate unnecessary injuries and create a culture of safety. Through falls management, safe patient handling, and early mobility practices, you can create a safe environment for both caregivers and patients
In hospitals, patients who are immobile and bedridden, have a high risk of hospital acquired conditions including: falls, pressure injuries, increased length of stay and ventilator associated pneumonia. In order to ensure that patients return to their functional mobility status, it is important to arm the patients care team with the knowledge and resources to mobilize their patients early and often. #Courses #CE #RN-LPN #RNs #Assisted-Living-Personal-Care #Home-Care #Nursing-Home #Hospital #Mobility #ambulation #transfer #Lifting #Safe-Patient-Handling #Sit-to-stand #Pressure-Injury-Prevention #Programs #Fall-Prevention #Safe-Patient-Handling
