The course provides an overview of effective wound assessment. Assessing a wound involves multiple steps, beginning with choosing reliable and valid wound assessment methods, which should include: measuring wound area/size and depth, assessing the wound edges, an aspect of the wound bed and surrounding skin, as well as the amount and type of exudate and odor. Consistent documentation and communication of all findings are crucial.
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Understand the components of an effective wound assessment
- Discuss tools available for performing wound assessments
- Outline the distinguishing characteristics seen when assessing wounds of various etiologies
This course is intended for nurses.
