Course Description

Healthcare organizations must prepare for a range of emergencies, including violent acts that are increasingly common in the U.S., power outages that can test emergency plans, and extreme weather events resulting from changing climates. The process of being prepared in an emergency involves planning, training, and evaluating different scenarios to mitigate future occurrences. The goal of emergency preparedness is to safeguard the facility, its staff, and its patients. 

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the importance of an emergency action plan and its components 
  • Identify the essential resources required during an emergency 

  • Classify different types of emergency situations
