Celebrating Pride Month: A Focus on LGBTQIA+ Healthcare Education

By Medline University Staff | June 1, 2024

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate diversity and champion inclusivity. At Medline University, we’re excited to highlight four courses that align with the spirit of this month and also resonate with our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. These courses are designed to empower healthcare professionals, particularly nurses and nursing assistants, with the knowledge and skills to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to the LGBTQIA+ community. Let’s take a closer look at each course:

1. Patient-centered Care for LGBTQIA+ Patients

This course equips healthcare professionals with the skills to effectively communicate with and serve LGBTQIA+ patients. It provides a comprehensive understanding of LGBTQIA+ inclusive terminology, the historical and social challenges faced by this community, and the importance of creating a safe and affirming environment for LGBTQIA+ patients. This course counts for 1.0 nursing CE.

2. Patient-centered Care for LGBTQIA+ Patients (Microlearning)

A condensed version of our comprehensive course, this ten-minute course focuses on key aspects of LGBTQIA+ patient care. It’s designed for those who want to quickly grasp the essentials of creating a safe and affirming environment for LGBTQIA+ patients.

3. Cultural Competence in the Care of LGBTQIA+ Populations (Microlearning)

This course delves into the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. It empowers healthcare providers to deliver high-quality, patient-tailored care by recognizing the influence of culture and healthcare disparities on individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+.

4. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Healthcare (Microlearning)

Diversity, equity, and inclusion significantly impact the quality of healthcare delivery. This course explores these principles, their impact on healthcare, and provides strategies to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in your healthcare team and organization.

In the spirit of Pride Month, we invite you to join us at Medline University in our commitment to advancing healthcare education. Our courses are designed to provide you with the knowledge and understanding necessary to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to all, including the LGBTQIA+ community. We’re here to help you navigate the complexities of healthcare with clarity and confidence. Together, we can make a difference.
