Two New Courses: National Performance Goals 2026 (Microlearning) and Surgical Site Infection Prevention and Incision Care

By Medline University Staff | April 23, 2026

We’re excited to introduce two new learning opportunities: a concise microlearning course focused on the 2026 National Performance Goals, and a new CE course for nurses addressing surgical site infection prevention. Together, these courses support patient safety, regulatory awareness, and evidence‑based clinical practice across care settings.

Note: Microlearning is an approach to learning new information in small segments of 3–15 minutes. These courses are mobile-friendly, do not offer CE credit, and do not include a post-test.

Here's what's new:

National Performance Goals 2026 (Microlearning)

In 2026, The Joint Commission introduced National Performance Goals (NPGs), replacing the National Patient Safety Goals and expanding their application to both hospitals and critical access hospitals. This mobile‑friendly microlearning course provides a timely overview of the updated goals and how they connect to everyday clinical and operational practice.

  • Learning Objectives:
    • Identify the purpose of the 2026 National Performance Goals (NPGs).
    • Describe the key expectations within each of the 14 performance goals.
    • Recognize how these standards apply to daily clinical and operational practice.

Surgical Site Infection Prevention and Incision Care (1.0 CE for Nurses)

Surgical site infections (SSIs) remain a significant public health concern, contributing to increased morbidity, mortality, length of stay, and healthcare costs. This new CE course explores the burden of SSIs, highlights patient‑specific and perioperative risk factors, and outlines evidence‑based strategies to help prevent infection and improve patient outcomes.

  • CE Credit: 1.00 contact hour approved by the Florida and California Boards of Nursing
  • Learning Objectives:
    • Define surgical site infections.
    • Discuss the burden they place on the healthcare system.
    • Examine patient-specific risk factors along with risk factors unique to the perioperative setting.
    • Identify strategies to help address risk factors and prevent surgical site infections.

We invite you to explore these new learning opportunities and continue your journey of professional growth with Medline University.
