Course Description

This course will discuss surgical instrument processing from the operating room (OR) to the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and back to the OR.  

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Better understand the protocols for handling and accounting for surgical instruments in the OR after surgery.
  • Identify the best practices for handling instruments in the decontamination area to prevent loss and enhance cleaning.
  • Learn the best practices for instrument inspection, testing, and quality testing.
Intended Audience

This educational activity was developed for central sterile technicians and sterile processing professionals.
