Course Description
Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is caused by a proteinaceous infectious agent, or prion. The term “prion” arose from the words “protein” and “infectious." It causes microscopic vacuoles in the neurons of the brain. The brain becomes and appears “sponge-like”.

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Discuss prions and their role in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD)
- Review the methods of transmission of prions
- Discuss the Rutula-Weber Recommendations “Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease: Recommendations for Disinfection and Sterilization”
