Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide nurses with an understanding of good communication among peers in a healthcare environment and how to foster this communication to enhance collaborative working relationships.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Compare the effectiveness of communicating in an aggressive manner versus communicating in an assertive manner
  • Summarize the collaborative process along with techniques that can be used to develop a collaborative relationship
  • Recognize techniques that are helpful in developing an assertive communication style
  • Identify techniques that can be used to help reduce interdepartmental conflicts
  • Explain the characteristics of defensive behavior and ways that defensive behavior can be handled effectively
  • Describe effective approaches to communicating in crisis situations
