Surgical wound infections are a serious issue that can cause significant morbidity and even mortality in post-operative patients. These infections also have a great impact on the cost of the patient’s care. Furthermore, infections in surgical wounds can be preventable. The goal of this course is to help nurses become more aware of the issue of infections in surgical wounds by explaining the different types of infections, exploring risk factors, and providing practical preventative techniques.
