Course Description

Technology related to the care of pediatric infants is constantly evolving and improving. Caring for younger gestational age patients presents many challenges for nurses, particularly in the area of skin care. This course focuses on the skin-specific challenges of preterm and full-term pediatric patients, as well as common skin disorders seen throughout childhood.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Explain the physiological differences between preterm and full-term skin.
  • List skin disorders common in children.
  • Describe pressure injuries seen in the neonate and pediatric populations.

Course Authors

Joanne is a nurse practitioner with over 30 years of experience in wound, ostomy, and continence care across acute care, outpatient, and skilled nursing settings. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing and previously served as director of wound management services for a large university health system.

Brenda is a certified nurse educator with over 25 years of clinical experience. She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice and a Master of Science in Nursing focusing on education.
