Start with the big picture; look at systemic factors that affect wound healing. Identify the wound etiology to understand the pathophysiological process that affects and determines if the wound can heal. Treat the whole person, not just a wound or specimen or body part. Consider and include multiple factors in the wound management strategy for your patient.
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Discuss wound characteristics that influence dressing selection.
- Select the appropriate dressing based on wound characteristics and wound management goals.
- Discuss factors which impact healing in the chronic wound.
- Describe the mechanism of action for each wound dressing category.
This course is intended for nurses.
