Appropriate Vascular Access Device Selection (1.0 CE for Nurses)

09-11-2020 08:10 AM

Course Description

The clinical sub-specialty of Vascular Access has become increasingly complex over the past several years. These devices are associated with sequelae that include central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI), vessel damage secondary to deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and stenosis, as well as increased healthcare-related costs. The purpose of this course is to provide physicians and allied healthcare providers with a review of the various vascular access options, placement techniques, and the indications and contraindications associated with each option. Clinical considerations discussed include various medical comorbidities and appropriate catheter tip placement. The course incorporates a clinical overview to help clinicians determine the appropriate vascular access choice for their patients based on the most up-to-date data and expert recommendations currently available.

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify associated indications and contraindications for each vascular access device
  • Evaluate clinical considerations for vascular access device classes
