Cultural Competence in the Care of LGBTQIA+ Populations (Microlearning)

05-30-2024 01:09 PM

Course Description

Various social determinants—gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability, age, geographic location, sexual orientation, and gender identity—can individually or collectively contribute to inequalities, discrimination, marginalization, and social exclusion. These factors can profoundly affect an individual’s health and overall well-being.

Healthcare professionals need to understand cultural diversity and the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. Fear, stigma, and discrimination often pose additional challenges for this group. Recognizing the influence of culture and healthcare disparities on individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+ empowers healthcare providers to deliver high-quality, patient-tailored care.
