Course Description

This course provides caregivers with an understanding of the physical effects dementia has on the body and how this affects the lives of elderly individuals. The purpose of this course is to examine the physical effects of dementia, and the challenges these effects pose for caregivers. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Define dementia along with the pattern of physical & mental decline 

  • Recognize three signs that indicate a decline in mobility 

  • Explain three examples of how dementia can affect food and fluid intake 

  • Describe what can happen as a result of inadequate food and fluid intake 

  • Discuss three examples of how dementia contributes to loss of bowel and bladder control 

  • Recall two types of problems that can result from loss of bowel and bladder control
