Course Description
This health literacy course, designed for nurses and healthcare providers, aims to define and explore the concept of health literacy and its impact on both the health and economy of the U.S. population. The course will identify populations at risk for low health literacy and examine methods to mitigate its effects. By increasing knowledge and awareness, the course aims to improve health literacy and patient outcomes in the U.S.
Learning Objectives

- Explain why health literacy is important for health outcomes and equity
- List five skills for good health literacy
- List populations at risk for poor health literacy
- Explain five reasons people struggle with health literacy

Martie is a Chief Nursing Officer, known for developing clinical programs and products, and has previously led a Magnet-designated medical center.
Erika is a certified maternity nurse with over 15 years of experience.
Brenda has over 20 years of clinical experience in nursing practice and is a certified nurse educator. She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice along with a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on education.
