Course Description
Technology related to the care of preterm babies is constantly improving. The ability to deliver these high-risk babies at younger gestational age poses many challenges for the nurse, especially in the area of skin care. This module focuses on skin specific challenges of the pretern, full term, and pediatric patient as well as common skin disorders seen throughout childhood.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Understand the physiological differences between preterm and full term skin
- List common skin disorders seen in children
- Recognize the bruising of child abuse and appropriate interventions
- Describe pressure ulcers seen in the neonate and pediatric population
