Course Description
This program will provide a basic review of the background of PPE; assessing the need for PPE and isolation carts; types of PPE; donning and doffing PPE; determining the level of precaution; an introduction to the new USP 800 guidelines for when working with hazardous drugs; educating healthcare staff, patients, and family members; and special considerations for PPE such as Ebola and HIV. This program is for healthcare employees who have direct patient care responsibilities. It will not cover proper protection for employees cleaning the healthcare environment, protective environment, cleaning and disinfecting an isolation room, working with lab/pathology samples or spill containment.

- Identify proper PPE for specific transmission-based precautions
- Describe how to properly don and doff PPE
- Identify three types of transmission-based precautions
- Identify correct use of PPE when hazardous drugs are present under USP 800 guidelines
- Identify five barriers to using PPE
- Explain PPE for Ebola Virus Patients

This course is appropriate for healthcare personnel including, but not limited to: nurses, nursing assistants, long-term care administrators, physical therapists, physicians and certified surgical technologists.
