Safety Culture: Communication Lessons (1.0 CE for Nurses)

Course Description

Communication is at the heart of safety. Without excellent communication skills, an organization can suffer, and patient safety can be greatly affected. In this course, we will explore the background of a culture of safety, review types of workplace cultures, explore levels of healthcare organizations and how that affects speaking up, discuss barriers and consequences when healthcare workers don’t speak up, and examine methods to implement a safety culture in the workplace.

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Differentiate between a punitive culture and a just culture
  • Examine barriers for speaking up
