Course Description
The complex interactions of the various components of the human immune system to protect the body against pathogenic organisms is challenging but necessary to understand to provide effective patient care. But equally important for nurses and other healthcare providers to understand is what happens when something is wrong with this system, causing it to become ineffective, or worse, to attack the body instead of pathogens.

After completing this course, the learner should be able to:
- Discuss the causes and symptoms of various forms of allergies and asthma, as well as their treatment
- Explain how the various types of autoimmune disease occur, and what treatments are available for them
- Describe eight common autoimmune disorders
