Course Description
Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects the population worldwide. Diabetes can be a complex and fatal disease, if not treated appropriately. It can lead to systemic complications affecting many organ systems, and is the seventh leading cause of death in the U.S. Because of these staggering numbers, it is likely that nursing assistants in all healthcare settings, will encounter a diabetic patient.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Understand the different types of diabetes
- Understand common complications of diabetes
- Explore treatment options
- Review the process for obtaining a blood sugar level
Intended Audience
This course is designed to assist the nursing assistant by providing an overview of diabetes.

This course is approved for 1.00 contact hours by the American Medical Certification Association. Upon course completion, this course can be submitted as 1.00 CEU towards the 10 CEU requirement for recertification set forth by the AMCA Certification Board.
