Course Description
This course is divided into three modules that will focus on alternatives to indwelling urinary catheters, or IUCs, for incontinent patients; knowing the how, why and when of intermittent catheterization, and engaging patients and families in reducing the risk of catheter-associated urinary tract infections, or CAUTIs.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:
- List alternatives to indwelling urinary catheters
- Identify products for incontinence and acute urinary retention
- Recognize the importance of performing intermittent catheterization to relieve urinary retention
- Review the insertion of an intermittent catheter
- Discuss the benefits of involving patients and family members in reducing the risk of CAUTI

Brenda has 17 years of clinical experience and a Master’s degree in Nursing Education and is a certified nurse educator.
Christine is a pediatric nurse and has 8 years of experience both at the bedside, in safety and quality, and in nursing education. Christine has her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on nursing education.
